The lights were low, the Social Club was buzzing, and the excitement in the air felt electric. Waiters in flat caps glided through the room while JT Horenstein directed seating like a seasoned New York City traffic cop, confidently orchestrating the flow of guests into his latest co-production, Just John: Songs at the Speakeasy. From the very first moment, it was clear we were about to experience something special.
We knew—oh, we knew—we were in for a treat. Perhaps even a once-in-a-Puerto-Vallarta-lifetime moment. This was Evita Loca stepping aside, shedding the dazzling dress, and giving John the spotlight to sing the songs closest to his heart. And what a gift that was.
As expected from a Broadway performer (and soon-to-be legend), every note was on point. The music was flawless, the vocals powerful, heartfelt, and captivating. John didn’t just sing; he invited us into his world. He took us on a journey through his life, his career, and the stories that make him uniquely John Michael Dias. The show flowed beautifully through beloved musical theater numbers, creative and refreshing reimaginations of pop favorites, and tender ballads that lingered long after the final note. It was personal, authentic, and deeply moving.
The perfect backdrop to this magical evening was the Social Club itself. Roger, Bryan, and Brian—as like to call them RB&B—have created something truly special. This boutique venue is a gem, offering an intimate and welcoming space that elevates live entertainment to another level. It’s not only one of the most charming performance spaces in Puerto Vallarta, but quite possibly one of the most intimate in all of Mexico. You don’t just watch a show here; you become part of it.
If there is ever a reenactment, revival, or encore performance of this evening, don’t hesitate. Don’t think about going—go. These are the nights that become memories you treasure.
Five stars to John Michael Dias for his brilliance and vulnerability on stage. Hats off to JT for his inspired production, and endless kudos to the Social Club for bringing such magical, intimate nights to Puerto Vallarta. Here’s hoping for an encore.
