Puerto Vallarta set new tourism records in 2025, posting gains in visitor arrivals, hotel occupancy, airport traffic and cruise activity despite a year marked by geopolitical tensions that dampened travel in other destinations.

The Pacific coast city welcomed 6.265 million visitors in 2025, surpassing its previous record of 6.211 million tourists in 2024, according to figures released by tourism authorities. Domestic travelers accounted for 67.5% of visitors, while international tourism represented 32.5%.

Tourists stayed an average of just over three nights, with a mean occupancy of 2.2 guests per room. Annual hotel occupancy hovered near 70%, even as the metropolitan area added 1,706 new hotel rooms during the year, excluding short-term rental platforms.

Tourism generated an estimated 40.924 billion pesos ($MXN) in economic impact. Of that total, 16.757 billion pesos came from domestic tourism, while international visitors contributed 24.167 billion pesos.

Passenger traffic at Puerto Vallarta International Airport also reached an all-time high. The airport handled 6.947 million passengers in 2025, up from 6.803 million the previous year. Domestic travel accounted for 3.123 million passengers, while international traffic reached 3.824 million.

Air connectivity expanded throughout the year. Canadian carrier Porter Airlines launched new routes from Toronto, Ottawa and Hamilton in November and December. Frontier Airlines added service from Atlanta in December, while Volaris introduced a domestic route from Morelia in July.

Additional growth is expected in 2026, with Southwest Airlines scheduled to begin service from San Diego in March and Las Vegas in June.

Maritime tourism also showed gains. Puerto Vallarta’s international cruise terminal received 171 cruise ships in 2025, up from 167 arrivals in 2024, reflecting increased interest from cruise operators.

Tourism officials attributed the results to coordinated promotion efforts by the Jalisco State Tourism Secretariat, the Puerto Vallarta Tourism Trust and private-sector partners, as well as continued investment in infrastructure and air connectivity.

Puerto Vallarta remains one of Mexico’s most visited beach destinations, offering a mix of hospitality, gastronomy, culture and outdoor attractions that continue to draw both domestic and international travelers.
