A new café has opened its doors in Marina Vallarta, offering a fresh spot to enjoy coffee, cocktails, desserts, or light meals. Located in a prime area for visitors heading out on boat tours or frequenting the marina for work and leisure, BRUMA Café & Cocktails launched in the first week of November 2025.
The business is owned by gay couple Alfonso “Poncho” Vargas and Philip “Felipe” Manly. Vargas brings extensive experience from the café scene in Guadalajara, while Manly is a commercial airline pilot and the founder of the local charter tour company, Vallarta Yacht Rentals.
BRUMA features a full menu of hot and cold coffee drinks, including frappés and a selection of flavored syrups for mochas, white mochas, and caramel drinks. The café also offers specialty items like Freddo Capuccino and Freddo Espressos, alongside popular chai lattes.
“One thing that sets us apart is our license to offer alcoholic beverages,” said Manly. “This includes coffee-based drinks like Carajillos (espresso with liquor) and Espresso Martinis. Our alcoholic menu also features wine by the glass, beer, cocktails, and margaritas.”
The food selection is anchored by in-house baked goods, such as cinnamon rolls, blueberry and banana muffins, and cookies. Other options include croissants, bagels (with cream cheese or ham and cheese), and a chicken ciabatta sandwich. In the coming weeks, BRUMA will add a special Happy Hour with cocktails and light snacks like wontons and chicken bites.
The name BRUMA is tied to its location. Bruma is the Spanish term for “mist,” the atmospheric phenomenon caused by the suspension of tiny water particles in the air over the sea, similar to fog but less dense.
Upcoming Gay+ Mixer
BRUMA Café & Cocktails will host the Gay+ Mixer by Vallarta Yacht Rentals on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. Presented by Out & About PV Magazine and the Facebook group “Everything Puerto Vallarta Gays Everything You Need or Want to Know,” the event is a perfect opportuntyi to socialize and connect with other LGBTIQ+ people. Attendees will also be able to tour the Vallarta Yacht Rentals fleet with the crew offering free deck tours.
Attending the Art & Market Marina Vallata is also an ideal occasion to get to know BRUMA. The event takes place on the Marina boardwalk every Thursday at 6 p.m. throughout the high season (November through May). BRUMA’s location allows guests to enjoy the market’s lively atmosphere, which often includes live music.
Marina Vallarta is located on the north side of the city, near the Gustavo Díaz Ordaz International Airport. It is known as a meeting point for boat tours and features a boardwalk lined with restaurants, art galleries, real estate offices, and bars.
