The Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board has released the first render images of the renovation and improvement project for the city’s iconic oceanside promenade, the Malecón, with an expected completion date before the busy December holiday season.
The renovation is already in progress and aims to enhance the overall visitor experience. Improvements include adding urban amenities, installing additional lighting, incorporating planters, and implementing an automated irrigation system. The plan also addresses wear and tear by replacing damaged paving slabs, installing and restoring benches, rewiring electrical systems, and repainting various structures.
Malecón Expansion Planned
An expansion of the Malecón’s northern section is also scheduled. These construction works will begin in late October 2025, extending the promenade from 31 de Octubre to Argentina streets. This extension will allow the Malecón to reach Parque Hidalgo in the 5 de Diciembre neighborhood.
Financing for the project is sourced from the Federal Maritime Land Zone (ZOFEMAT). All work is anticipated to be finished in December, ensuring the renovated Malecón is ready for the influx of tourists during the holiday season.
