Agencies Respond After Heavy Storm Leaves Damage

A storm with heavy rains struck Puerto Vallarta Friday afternoon, causing multiple emergency situations, and the city’s Civil Protection and Fire Department has been working continuously to assist affected residents, officials said.

Mayor Luis Munguía González ordered an immediate deployment of all Civil Protection and Fire Department personnel, under Director Misael López Muro, in response to reports of flooding, swept-away vehicles and other storm-related hazards.

Key incidents reported:

  • 15 vehicles swept away by currents.
  • 42 homes flooded.
  • 12 people rescued.

Areas affected:

Some of the hardest hit neighborhoods include Agua Zarca, Fiscalía, Mojoneras, Colonia 544, 16 de Septiembre, and Sinaloa. Major thoroughfares also impacted include Avenida Francisco Villa, Avenida México at its intersection with Avenida Poetas, and sections of Francisco Medina Ascencio.

Public safety measures:

  • Authorities were urging people to stay home unless travel is absolutely necessary. Remember, in anytype of flooding like his, citizens are warned not to cross streets, arroyos or other water flows — on foot or by vehicle.

The local government reaffirmed its commitment to preventing and responding to emergencies, ensuring that operations continue until the storm’s impacts are under control.
