Alondra, a 28-year-old surgical nursing professional from Colonia Palmar del Progreso, was crowned Gay Queen of the Patriotic Celebrations in El Pitillal on Sept. 13, in a pageant organized by Puerto Vallarta’s Office of Sexual Diversity.
“Tonight we showed that diversity is part of the heart of Puerto Vallarta,” said Héctor “Teto” Ramírez Betancourt, head of the Office of Sexual Diversity. “This celebration is not only about a crown — it’s about visibility, respect and inclusion.”
Despite intermittent rain, the event moved forward, and featured contestants from several neighborhoods. Participants competed in traditional costume, casual wear and evening gown categories, with judges also weighing personality, stage presence and answers to questions.
Alondra, whose given name is Miguel López, received the crown from City Councilor Laurel Carrillo Ventura on behalf of Mayor Luis Munguía.
Ramírez said the contest’s joyful atmosphere underscored the progress made in LGBTQ+ acceptance locally.
“Every year this stage becomes a space where our community can shine,” he said. “The applause, the colors and the smiles remind us that Puerto Vallarta continues to lead with pride.”
The ceremony also honored community members who have advanced LGBTQ+ visibility in El Pitillal, including Alejandro “Junior” de Dios Virgen and Joel “Blondie Brigitte” Flores Andrade.
After her coronation, Alondra said she felt proud and grateful for the support she received, calling the title “a turning point.”
