Trans people in Puerto Vallarta now have a comprehensive support model in their gender identity change process, thanks to the signing of a Collaboration Agreement between the municipality’s Civil Registry and the MOVii México association.
The agreement, witnessed by national and international activist Kenya Cuevas, was signed by Lic. Luis Manuel Alemán Moreno, Civil Registry Officer, and Víctor Espíndola, representative of MOVii, seeks to ensure that the process of gender change on the birth certificate is not only an administrative procedure, but that the people who carry it out have legal advice, social support and access to clear and unhindered information.
Unlike the regular process, this agreement will allow trans people to receive personalized guidance, avoid bureaucratic obstacles and access a service free of discrimination. In addition, free service schemes will be promoted for those who are in a vulnerable situation.
As part of the agreement, a training program will also be implemented for Civil Registry staff to guarantee attention with a focus on human rights, awareness of diversity and respect for gender identity.
In addition to Kenya Cuevas, ambassador of Vallarta Pride, the event was attended by Sebastián León, trans coordinator, and Denisse Covarrubias, community outreach coordinator, both from MOVii, who celebrated this advance as an innovative model of inclusion and guarantee of rights for the trans community in Puerto Vallarta.
With this initiative, the municipality is positioned at the forefront in the protection of the right to identity, establishing a precedent in the provision of Civil Registry services with a more humane, accessible and inclusive approach.
