Spanish transgender actress Isabel Torres passed away today after fighting a long battle with lung cancer. Her family announced her death through an Instagram post, writing, “Today, February 11, 2022, we say goodbye to Isabel.”

Friends and fans responded in the comments to share her condolences for the family of an actress who touched the lives and hearts of so many.

She recently played Cristina Ortiz Rodríguez known as “La Veneno” in the HBO miniseries Veneno. To be able to perform the role of ‘La Veneno’ Isabel had to reach 95 kg and embodied the life and impact of the transgender Spanish celebrity and singer-songwriter, sharing the star’s powerful story with a gentle touch that only Torres could play.

Isabel Torres was diagnosed with cancer in 2019 and revealed in an emotional video on Instagram in November 2021 that she had two months to live. But, she continued to live and fight until the last moment: “My life has not been easy. Without realizing it, I have made a battle of my life. A battle that I don’t know if it will end soon or a little later. What I have clear is that I am not going to stop fighting until the last moment”, said Isabel.

Torres was a reference for transgender women in Spain and around the world, since she was one of the first people to make the public transition in the island of Gran Canaria, her hometown, off the coast of Morocco.

“I’ve tried since I was little to be who I wanted to be.” Nobody could better define the life trajectory of Isabel Torres than she herself did in November 2021. This has been the 52 years of life of the main actress of Veneno, who died this Friday after failing to overcome diagnosed lung cancer already in 2018.

If you haven’t had a chance to see the Spanish series ‘Veneno’ don’t wait any longer and go see it, it’s a great work that touches on issues such as transsexuality in the eighties in Spain and the strength of being a woman.

Rest in peace a great actress and transgender activist, who knew how to live her life as she was, free.
