Marriott International, recognized as a leader in the hotel industry on topics of diversity and inclusion, is proud to show its support to the LGBTQ community throughout the Caribbean and Latin America during the Pride Month in June. The company and its properties are celebrating the movement with several unique activities, highlighting their dedication and partnership with the community.

After the successful lighting with the colors of the rainbow last year on the outside of Marriott International properties in the region, the initiative has grown to include 11 markets and 40 properties in 2019. Hotels in Aruba, Baja California, Brazil, Chile , Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, are joining this dynamic of support example. In addition, for the first time, there was participation of a property in Costa Rica, where marriage between same-sex couples will be legalized in 2020.

Many Marriott International hotels celebrated Pride Month by offering their guest innovative experiences such as cooking classes and mixology, special packages for guests and activities on the properties.

In Puerto Vallarta, one of the main LGBTQ destinations in Latin America and one of the favorites of this community, the Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa launched exclusive packages called Pride & Joy and Pridefully Ever After. The Pridefully Ever After package invited couples to marry or renew their vows in the most romantic atmosphere. While the package included rooms with private balconies, strawberries covered in chocolate, bouquets of flowers and delicious wine pairings. In addition, the restaurants of the Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa created colorful dishes for all guests to enjoy.

The Marriott International hotels in Costa Rica, one of the first countries in Central America in favor of same-sex marriages, also participated in the lighting of their hotels, taking part in various celebrations, providing baked sandwiches and organizing wonderful special packages for the guests.

In the Caribbean, Puerto Rico has become a hub for LGBTQ travelers with bars, restaurants and beaches that cater to the community. The Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino located in San Juan, showed its support through an art installation called “Occupied Free”, which questions whether our hearts are “free” or “occupied”. The artist explains that the general concept of the piece represents equality, love and acceptance, above all. In addition, the hotel offered guests the opportunity to purchase merchandise from the hotel and the proceeds will be donated to the Casa Manuel Fernández Juncos organization, a local orphanage.

Marriott’s loyalty program, Marriott Bonvoy, known for offering unique moments to its members, is auctioning VIP access to the Pride Month events, such as participating in the Marriott International car at the Pride Parade in Mexico City. .

This year’s activities mark Marriott International’s continued support for the LGBTQ community. Since being the first hotel chain to offer the same benefits for same-sex couples in the United States in 1999 by offering a popular travel website serving the LGBTQ community, the company believes in the power of love to unite cultures, inspire discovery and connect people, places, and have a purpose all over the world.
